In yet another exciting development for the North Gold Coast area, a new Special School is planned to open in Coomera for the beginning of the 2022 school year. Construction is under way with earth works well progressed. According to a press release by the Minister, the school will be 2 storey buildings and have 20 learning areas.
This is an important education service for families in the North Gold Coast area. At present the nearest Special Schools are at Southport and Beenleigh. While most government schools include a Special Education Unit, an actual Special School provides education for children with more special needs. Having family members with special needs, I know the difference that quality education can make to the future lives and community and social inclusion of people with special needs.

According to an online invitation for tenders by Broad Construction:
The new Gold Coast Special School is to be constructed as a P-12 campus and is divided into 2 stages. Stage 1 will provide a capacity for 144 students and is to be delivered for opening Term 1, 2022, with a view to expand to approximately 200-240 capacity at peak enrolment.
I have asked the Queensland Department of Education for more information on this vital new service for North Gold Coast families and will create a new post when I know more.
