New Hospital Promised for North Gold Coast – But When?

A new hospital was promised for the North Gold Coast at the last state election. What is known about the plans? How long until this hospital might be built?

As a North Gold Coast local, I was very interested in the announcement that a new hospital is promised in Coomera. As our beautiful suburbs are growing, with more and more people moving here, we need more infrastructure to provide the basic services. There are a lot of people living between the two closest main hospitals at Logan and the Gold Coast University Hospital.

This quote is from the Premier’s press release in October last year:

“Our plan includes a new hospital and health precinct in Coomera, on a preferred site of 13.52 hectares of land owned already by Queensland Health at 41 George Alexander Way.

“It is ideally situated in the Coomera region and is within walking distance to the Coomera train station.

“We have set aside $3 million to develop the plan in consultation with the community and stakeholders for the infrastructure and services we need on this site.

This quote and the image for this post were copied from  Annastacia Palszczuk’s website.

So, $3 million has been allocated from the 2020-2021 state budget for planning and consultation by June 2021.

At least the government already has the land.  According to realestate.com.au, this parcel of land was bought for over $15M in 2007.

This seems to be a good location. We are going to be able to walk to the hospital from the Coomera Train Station. On the other side of George Alexander Way is land zoned for high density housing, and works have already started on preparing the site. This will be a handy location for people who need frequent health care services.

This part of Coomera will be quite a hub, with the Westfield shopping centre to the west (plus all of the additional retail outlets still to be built), then Coomera Train Station, Hospital, high-density housing, and the existing TAFE on the southern corner of the intersection of Foxwell Road.

As infrastructure continues to be announced and developed, even more people will be attracted to our area, and prices and rents will continue to increase.

I have asked our local MP’s office for more information. As I receive more details, I will post about the progress of the hospital.

Rent-vesting is an increasingly mainstream strategy for those seeking to break into the property market or expand their portfolio without impacting their lifestyle.

It breaks the traditional approach of buying a property and living in it. It means you can rent in the area you love and buy in the suburb you can afford.
